Optimus Prime
Owner Trevor Taylor is an experienced offshore racing skipper, including winning the Siska Trophy as WA Offshore Champion. In last year’s Rolex Sydney Hobart, Optimus Prime, a Marten 49, finished less than one minute ahead of fellow West Australian, Phil Childs and his Farr 49 Knee Deep, after battling bow on bow for the entire 628 nautical mile race. The two finished 10th and 12th respectively in their division. Taylor’s previous best result was finishing sixth in IRC Division 2 and a respectable 24th overall for the Hobart race.
Other impressive results include: a fastest time and second overall in the Fremantle to Carnarvon Race, first and fastest in the first leg of the Valmadre Series and first and fastest in the Dolphin Race, the first leg of the Farrawa Cup. Trevor Taylor and his West Australian crew will have already sailed the distance of the race five and a half times, covering more than 2000 nautical miles just to bring Optimus Prime to the Sydney start line.
